Communications Intern – Student Position

Community Links is seeking a detail oriented, self-starter with strong writing skills and the ability to work in a multi-project environment.

 

The Communications Intern will provide communication support including creating, editing, and managing content for print materials, e-newsletter and social media. The candidate will have experience in MS Office Suite, digital communications, media relations, writing in various forms (e.g. profiles, features, news releases, online, etc.) and editing.

 

Community Links is a provincial non-profit dedicated to ensuring older adults can age well in their communities. Members include senior-serving organizations, clubs and individuals who address aspects of aging well including physical and mental health, active living, social connection, transportation and appropriate, affordable housing; our regionally-based Aging Well Together Coalitions offer members opportunities to increase their collective impact.

 

Position: 280 hours. Located at Community Links Provincial Office, Halifax and/or from home. $17.00/hr.

 

Description of duties:

Communications:

  • Develop and curate educational, informational, and best practice materials for older adults about issues including social connection, technology use and wellbeing in the context of COVID-19
  • Develop promotional materials for Community Links and Community Links Coalitions
  • Help develop a communications plan including online publications and website resources

 

Aging Well Art Contest/ Aging Well 2021 Calendar:

Coordinate an art and photo contest for our 2021 Aging Well Calendar, including:

  • Market the contest
  • Correspond with entrants
  • Organize, crop, and enhance photos as needed
  • Identify and solicit contest prizes from appropriate sponsors
  • Develop written content
  • Match photos to calendar content

 

Other: Assist with administrative support activities for both Community Links Provincial Office and Aging Well Together Coalitions

 

Supervision:  Supervision by Executive Director.

 

Qualifications: Training in Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Excellent communication skills, including social media, media relations and writing in various forms i.e. profiles, features, and news releases. Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access).  Interest and skills in photography and familiarity with Photoshop or other photo editing software.

 

Applicant is between 15 and 30 years of age and legally entitled to work in Canada.
