About us

Community Links is a provincial organization that promotes age friendly communities and quality of life for Nova Scotia seniors through community development and volunteer action. We celebrate the diversity within our senior population and advocate for equality, equity and cultural inclusivity in all of our efforts.

Community Links was established in 1992 as a community development project called Challenge in Participation with a goal of working in partnership with rural communities to meet the needs of seniors.

We continue to use a community development model and currently support the work of 10 Ageing Well Together Coalitions across Nova Scotia. Coalition members include agencies and individuals who are interested in making communities more age friendly and in promoting healthy ageing, with an emphasis on physical activity and other factors that help prevent falls. Coalition members include senior safety programs, VON, community physiotherapists and occupational therapists, Municipal Recreation, Red Cross, public libraries, and individual volunteers.

Community Links employs four Regional Coordinators to support coalitions in their work. To get involved with a coalition in your region, or to find out more, the Regional Coordinators contact information can be found under Contact Us.

Our Strategic Plan 2015 – 2018

Community Links is affiliated with the National Pensioners Federation, and is an active member of the Group of IX, the Seniors’ Advisory Council of Nova Scotia.
